Before you embark on your diving adventure in Malapascua, here are a few tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:

  • Dive with a reputable dive center: Choose a dive center with experienced instructors and well-maintained equipment. Safety should always be a top priority. I did my Open PADI at “Dan’s Dives Malapascua ” and can highly recommend it. Staff is super friendly and they care alot about saftey. We even got lucky and saw 2 Sharks.
  • Respect the marine life: Do not touch or disturb the marine life, as it can cause harm to both you and the creatures you encounter. Keep a safe distance and observe from a respectful distance.
  • Dive within your limits: If you are a beginner or haven’t dived in a while, start with shallow dives and gradually increase your depth and complexity. Listen to your instructor and follow their guidance.
  • Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun: Diving can be physically demanding, so make sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
  • Follow responsible diving practices: Practice good buoyancy control, avoid kicking the corals, and refrain from taking anything from the underwater environment. Leave only bubbles and take only memories.

The best time to visit Malapascua Island is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During this period, the weather is generally sunny and the sea conditions are calm, offering ideal diving conditions. However, it’s worth noting that Malapascua has a tropical climate, so there may be occasional rain showers even during the dry season.

If you’re specifically targeting thresher shark sightings, the early morning dives at Monad Shoal are best done between December and May when the chances of encountering these graceful creatures are highest.
